"After throwing some pinecones onto the fireplace, the farmer put on his coat and invited me to join him for a walk. “When the setting sun bathes the fields and hills in gold, the Val d’Orcia is the most beautiful countryside in the world” he said, with a smile. From the farmhouse, surrounded by cypress trees, a pathway unfolded through the green and undulating mantle of the hills.The sweet and mysterious scent of beech and cherry wood, which had burned in the hearth earlier, lingered in my senses, blending in perfect harmony with the fragrance of the lime, chestnut and cypress trees that accompanied us during our walk.
