Pourable Fuel Gel Safety Concerns & Recall

Pourable Fuel Gel Safety Concerns & Recall

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in cooperation with nine manufacturers and distributors, announced on August 31, 2011, a voluntary recall of all pourable gel fuels made or sold by these companies. Due to the serious risks of flash fire and burns when consumers add pourable gel to an already burning fire pot.

The announcement says "When consumers add pourable gel to an already burning fire pot, there exists a danger of flash fire and burn injury or property damage. Incidents have occurred where the consumer does not see the flame or is not aware that the firepot is still ignited, but refuels anyway without ensuring the flame is out per manufacturer’s instructions."

Fuel Gel Recalls were handled directly by the manufacturers.

The Recall NEVER INCLUDED Fuel Gel Single Use Cans
